Forming My High Brass Quintet… Someday
Playing in a high brass quintet had always been my dream ever since I can remember. This is probably because my dad used to take me a lot to the shows and I grew up liking the concerts a lot. I still take myself whenever I can, and I have come to love a lot of the new groups that are out there. Although not many people appreciate the beauty of the music that a brass quintet can make, my dad taught me how to like the music, and I instinctively fell I love with t for the past twenty something years or so.
It has been an eye-opening experience, and I had to take up some instrument lessons with the hope that I would join one of these groups someday or at least form mine that I could play with. It is not an easy task, and one has to be patient, and it took me almost five years to learn how to play the trumpet well. It is now fifteen years since I learned how to play it and I have always honed my skills whenever I have the chance to do so. The only problem I have is finding a group.
Going to the concerts and just sitting there listening to the music play is nothing short of the best feeling that I have ever had as a fan of this music. My dad recently passed away, and I had to play the instrument at his burial, and it was breathtaking despite the fact that my trumpet was filled with a lot of tears. I can’t miss any concert as this also helps me feel like I can connect with my father in some way as he gave me one of the biggest gifts that a father could ever give to a son and that is the love of music.
I have always treasured my trumpet
Whenever I find a kid that is playing whether on the street or even in the school that I work, I always feel some joy just knowing that there is still a generation of kids that is coming along to carry on the light that is in this beautiful music that a high brass quintet can make. The kind of harmony hat can be mustered with the quintet is just amazing, and I know that someday I will find some guys that I can play with.
I taught myself how to write music so the moment that I get my group together, we will already be having songs that we can practice with. This is important as it will help us get in sync with each other faster and in a way that is professional instead of just playing some pieces that have been done before.
My father’s key
My father taught me that the key to an excellent brass quintet is the ability to write their music and play them. This sets them at par that is just above the rest, and this is exactly what I should be aiming for. He had a lot of wisdom in music that he passed on to me in the most unexpected of circumstances, and this is why I loved that old man the more. He would always find the best in every situation in life. If it wasn’t for me living far away from him, am sure we would have had our brass quintet.
He would always tell me that there is no music in a man until he can learn how to play an instrument. No matter how much you love or listen to music, you should try to learn at least a single instrument, and this is why I took it upon myself to learn this trumpet. It was a powerful experience, and I thank my dad for being that guy that pushed me to ensure that I completed it.
In high school, I went to band camp, and although I was hesitant at first, it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my high school years, and I can never forget that holiday. That is where I became splendid at my trumpet, and I still have my dream of that high brass quintet making music that people can listen to and fall in love with just like I did.
